Miyabi Starr is a transgender artist whose work focuses on human existence and identity.

He was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Suzhou, China, when he was one year old. There, he attended kindergartens and international school where children from all over the world attended, and through classes in which he introduced the cultures of his home country and region to each other, he learned that there are many different people living different lives in the world at the same time, and that it was strange to introduce and present about his home country, Japan, which he did not know because he moved to China before he could remember. They also learned that it is important to "prove your whereabouts from various angles, not just being there" in order to get along with people who are different from you.

He studied instrumental music at The Music High School Attached to the Faculty of Music,Tokyo University of the Arts and at the same university. While most of the research here has been on Western classical music from the 17th to 19th centuries, Miyabi has also encountered contemporary music, including John Cage, and has conducted his own research on the military use of Western music in Japan during the Bakumatsu and Meiji periods -19th- , the cultural mix with Japanese instrumentalists, and the popular music of 19th century Japan. He found it interesting that new cultures are born out of cultural friction, and that people create works of art by arranging them based on their own ideas and values, which leads to the formation of their own culture and society. After graduating from college, he became an artist, questioning the environment of college life, where all he did was "play the songs that people used to write.

At the same time, he comes out to the people around him as a transgender person, something he has been aware of and hiding since he can remember.

Inspired by the self-portraits of photographer Mark Morrisroe, his work is based on his past experiences as a minority, with the keywords of "existence" as a recognition of human beings and life as a whole, and "identity" as individuals who were born and experienced differently.

He is also a member of the LGBTq+ community, which means that his work and information is aimed at creating a world where minorities and majorities are not dichotomized, but where they can share their thoughts and feelings as "human beings living their lives" (the LGBTq+ information website he created -> https://shounen. miyabistarr.com).
